Ocean City Added to the ACJFL
First time a team has been added in over 30 years

Ocean City has joined the Atlantic County Junior Football League. The jury is still out how good their program is ... and how successful they will be in our league. In their first game, they were treated very rudely by a strong Mays Landing Lakers program. Ocean City PeeWee lost 33-0, J.V. lost 40-14, Varsity lost 32-0.

The Sharks take a drive over the bridge on October 15th to pay them a visit.

Sharks treated to "Scarlet" carpet treatment at Rutgers
Published in The Current Newspaper September 29, 2011

The Somers Point Sharks varsity football team, consisting of 7th and 8th graders from Somers Point, were guests of Rutgers Football this past Saturday in New Brunswick as the Scarlet Knights played host to The University of Ohio Wildcats.

Assistant coach Marcus Perry played for the Sharks as a young boy in the early 1990’s and later was a standout player for the Scarlet Knights.  Because of the strong ties, the Sharks were treated to an amazing day they will not soon forget.  As guests of the football team, the Sharks had access to many things fans are not usually able to participate in.  The Sharks were treated to a special “tailgating meal” usually reserved only for former Rutgers players.  They met the Rutgers Mascot and pet the horse he rides during the games.  Finally, they lined the “Scarlet Walk” and shook hands with the players as they walked into the stadium before the game.  The Sharks then watched an exciting college football game - as Rutgers defeated The University of Ohio on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

After the game, the Sharks were given an exclusive tour of the football facilities – including the football weight room, locker rooms, and training rooms.  The team was treated to a talk from one of the football coaches who shared stories of Coach Perry as a player at Rutgers.  Before leaving for the day, the Sharks were able to run around and throw footballs on the team’s practice fields.

There is little doubt, Rutgers has just gained 30 new fans!
